About

How to fix our health care financing system.  Currently our system is complex, confusing, and most importantly obscenely expensive.  The video outlines the problems in graphic detail and proposes a solution, all presented from the viewpoint of businesses.  It is about the money.  The US spends twice as much per capita as most other civilized countries.  The cause of this fact is our reliance on private health insurance companies and their high overhead costs.

By having a single payer system, like Medicare for All, enormous savings would accrue.  Billions and Billions are going wasted on bureauracy.  The viewer will learn the details of the problems and how they can be fixed.  How can this be financed, and who will pay more and who will pay less.  What tests and treatments will be covered.  Will my taxes go up?  Will my net income go up or down.  Is this socialized medicine?  Will I be able to keep my own doctor.  Will all citizens be covered.  Will I be covered even if I lose my job, or don’t have one?

The government of Taiwan switched the entire country from a US style with private insurance companies to a Medicare for All Plan recently with massive savings.  It is feasible.  Our county implemented Medicare in the late 60’s in one year before computerization.  It can be done.

Two Million Bankruptcies per year in USA.  One Million because of health related expenses.  A Switzerland heath official reacted with horror.  Says it never happens in that country.

The Affordable Care Act took two baby steps forward and one baby step backwards. Many more folks are underinsured now than before its passage.  Private health insurance employees are good at their jobs, designing plans that look affordable, but really are not.  Medicine is too complicated, and we are all different.  Thus the “Market” will never “Fix It”

All of us are interested in solving this problem. Those of us who are young, or old, or liberal, or conservative, or religious, or not.  We all will need the best health care our dedicated and talented physicians, nurses and other providers can provide.  We should not need to be wealthy to obtain the best health care in the world.

Join us for the video and a follow up question and answer session. Got questions, we got answers or know who does.

This program is sponsored and made possible by Sustainable Morehead,  Morehead Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Shepherds Printing, and Kentuckians for Single Payer Health Care.
