Remembering Margaret Anne Box (Peg), November 26, 1938 – March 1, 2023
Kentuckians for Single Payer Health Care mourns the passing and celebrates the life of Peg Box, a member of our Steering Committee and an ardent advocate for a health care system, free of corporate control and profit, that would cover all with dignity and humanity.
Peg staffed the booths for single payer at Labor Day at the Zoo, the Park DuValle Community Health Fair, and countless other events. She traveled with us to the library in Jackson, Kentucky, where we presented a movie followed by Q and A explaining single payer health care. She hosted the letter party where the group drilled a thousand holes in black corrugated plastic rectangles into which we inserted LED lights to light up the letters which we carried on the Big Four Bridge above a concert of thousands. Our letters spelled out “Happy 49th Medicare, Improve It, Expand it, to All, H. R. 676.”
Peg could make a hundred phone calls in a heartbeat and graciously helped with all the mundane matters such as mailings, never minding the walker and the oxygen tank. She sparked our discussions with probing questions and thoughtful insights. We send our condolences to her family, and we hold her in our hearts. The obituary is below.
